Bit of drawing fun
(via https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mUlpF7d6eg) In this informative video you can clearly see how Teela Cunningham has excellently created type into a canvas.
The way i see it, this artist has used Adobe Photoshop brilliantly to create strokes, shadows and highlights, you literally see how a simple letter is transformed giving it perspective. It’s crafty tools like this that can really help in conveying a message through typography. Whilst watching Teela warp and transform brush strokes, it was clear how easy it would be to re-create this image yourself.
This video has inspired my thirst for typography knowledge. It’s a medium often overlooked and somehow seems to be one of the most fascinating aspects of graphic design.
Any aspiring graphic designer should be looking to combine art with a distinct message just the same way as this. I have always looked at lettering that is created to symbolize what it’s representing. I have looked at other types of lettering that are not nearly quite as good as this and it’s almost like a real burst of fresh air when you see something that completely changes how you’d approach a medium yourself.
Another inspiring factor is seeing how colours and words could be changed using this effect. It’s the small independent graphic designers i believe that can offer the best advice and tips to help in forming the way undergraduate designers can learn how to improve their skills with Adobe.
It’s also tutorials like this that can really help in accessing the creative side of your brain. More than that, this video also gives you insight into understanding how to use Photoshop to do things that are completely foreign to anyone who hasn’t spent many hours on the program. I have enjoyed learning these new tricks and will continue to use this artists video’s and tools as a guide in creating my own individual pieces of art, designs and concepts.
Hahah smh
A few of the different Pinterest ideas i have been looking at
Future predictions based on previous social trends
With popular trends that have re-appeared in the past, like music and remakes of classic films. It’s pretty much anyone guess what the next fad or popular trend will be. I had to ask myself what i would love to become popular that was from my childhood, the first thing that came to mind was yo yo’s. I loved those bad boys. And they seem to almost bring a sense of nostalgia. I can see in the next five years yo yo’s and BMX bikes being the latest thing again.
How i use media and my identity
The main media i find myself engaging with is generally facebook. Very rarely do i openly express my opinion on matters that seem to get most of societies attention. I find it hard to weigh in on a subject that someone else has researched and comes accross in an almost biased message. It looks like im almost behind the eight ball with other forms of media, which is something I’m currently working on….
The picture i can paint of myself as a media creator is someone on the verge of greatness. Well i like to think so.
What brought me to SAE?
The easy answer to this question would be google, unfortunately that doesn’t come close to describing the finer points. From when i was a child i always loved to design and create anything i could. I never exactly coloured between the lines and had a desire to push the limit on on whatever i put my mind to. My creative and risk taking character led me down the path of becoming a graffiti artist. I found peace in working with a blank canvas and creating what some of society would call art and others vandalism.
i was now 25 and years had passed since i had designed anything, i was at a crossroads in my life of going to university or getting an apprenticeship. I decided i wanted a life that i would love and enjoy, not just a job or career. I looked into graphic design just knowing it was something i would love to be good at. I found it ticked all the boxes and like nothing else i was inspired to learn more.
I’m now two weeks into my degree in design at SAE and it’s still got captivated and motivated to know more.
